Croquette

Deeply Devoted to Auroville

With great sadness, we share the passing of Croquette (Jean Larroquette), who left us on 21st October in France.

About

Croquette arrived in Auroville on 9th February 1976 with his wife Yanne. Together they helped create the community of Douceur, where they lived for nearly ten years, and later built their home in Dana. They left for France in 1992, but never really left. Every year they came back, for two months in the summer and one month in February.

Philosophy teacher, football player, tennis coach, he spent a large part of his life with the young. He was a familiar presence at Aspiration School and at the Certitude sports ground, where he trained many children and teenagers. He loved being among them, and they felt it.

He was a man of strong character: direct, outspoken and full of humour. Behind it was a real light and a deep warmth that people felt as soon as they spent time with him. In France, he gave many talks on Sri Aurobindo and Auroville, and carried Auroville with him wherever he went.

He leaves behind his wife Yanne, his sons Benjamin (Baba) and Yann, his six grandchildren, and a great number of friends who loved him.

Thank you, Croquette, for everything you gave to this place and to all of us. Rest in peace.
