Art for Land 2020
The
Art for Land Exhibition and Land Fundraiser is back for its 2020 edition,
ongoing at Auroville's Unity Pavilion till February 21st. The exhibition will kick off
with the Inaugural Ceremony on 11 January at 11 AM, honoured by the
presence of Hon. Dr. Kiran Bedi, Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, who as
the keynote guest, will inaugurate the exhibition.
ART
FOR LAND is a festival of beauty and creativity for a cause - securing the unified and
harmonious physical base for Auroville, the international township dedicated to
human unity that is officially hosted by India. Art for Land is an action of
flowing generosity - the art works have all been donated by their artists, and
land contributors receive an artwork in recognition of their solidarity. All donations
go for the purchase of missing plots in Auroville's officially designated “Master
Plan” area via the ACRES FOR AUROVILLE LAND CAMPAIGN.
The artworks are a rich and
creative collection in various media, donated by over 90 artists from
Auroville, the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, India and abroad. Many of the artists
enjoy wide recognition in India, such as Aurovilians Adil Writer, Pierre Legrand,
Robert L’Heureux, Priya Sundaravalli, Prabhat Biswas, Marie-Claire
Barsotti, Lalit Varma, Kratu, Ange, and Hufreesh
Chopra. They are joined by Priti Ghosh, the well-known artist from the Sri
Aurobindo Ashram. Some of the creations are from an earlier time and have been
blessed by The Mother. Recognized Indian artists such as Ankon Mitra, Silky
Arora, Shatraudhan Gupta, Rahul Solanki, Sameedha Paliwal, and Harshil Patel
have added their magnificent works to this year's collection.
The
exhibition is open Mondays – Saturdays (10 AM to 4 PM) from January 11th
– February 21st at Auroville’s Unity Pavilion. The works can also be
viewed at Art for Land's online gallery artforland.in where reservations for the works
can be made online.
This
year's exhibition has expanded its reach with allied exhibitions at Pondicherry
gallery sites: La
Promenade Hotel, Auradhan Gallery and Tasmai Gallery. Associated actions in
Auroville will be held at the Centre d’Art at Citadines with works by
Pierre Legrand, and Christl Michielsen’s one-woman exhibition at the Tibetan
Pavilion. A large number of concerts and events will be held during the
exhibition period, including a concert by Auroville's internationally-known
musician, Nadaka. The events schedule is shown via the link above and
available at www.artforland.in, with information
for new events that get added to the schedule at unitypavilion@auroville.org.in
Art
for Land has become a recognized and highly-anticipated annual event. As in the
previous exhibitions, ART FOR LAND 2020 promises a rich and gratifying experience!
