The Pavilion of India
Indus Valley is an offering of The Pavilion of India, Bharat Nivas, to the guests and community of Auroville. Situated amongst the trees in open, this Cafe is run on the concept of the gift economy, where there are no prices listed. You are encouraged to give donations as you please and for the place to run and grow, not directly against what you consume.
Simple Indian meals are served with a homely feel and it is located in the campus of Bharat Nivas, just next to the art centre Kala Kendra.
It is open daily, including Sundays, from 8.30 am till 5 pm. Lunch usually starts at 1200 noon and is served till it lasts. Group bookings are taken at least a day in advance, but smaller groups upto 5 to 7 can just come in without prior notice. Simple snacks, tea, coffee and other indian drinks are served through out the day. You can also order special indian snacks to take away in large quantities but taking away tiffins is not encouraged, as the whole concept is of food as an offering and being in the company of others, in a very relaxed atmosphere.
Usually there is a bazaar which is organised selling natural auroville products on Saturdays and Sundays from morning 10 am till 5 pm. some of the Auroville units sell their products here such as batik art, naturally dyed fabrics, hand made soaps, etc.
Indus Valley will be open for dinner hours too very soon.
Indus Valley also has a wi fi broadband connectivity for all the visitors to surf and use internet on their laptops. there is also usb key available which can be used and returned, with the office (ask for Dhruv or Dharmesh) if any one may not have wi fi enabled laptops.
It is a place that encourages interaction between people in a relaxed mood with an indian touch and in natural surroundings.
