Inspiration

Inspiration is a collective housing project in the habitat area of Auroville. with 15 apartments approx. 50 sq.m. each with 250 sq.m. common space which includes laundry, multipurpose hall intended for  common television and dining facilities on the ground floor.
Two apartments on the ground floor are accessed by a ramp.

The building is designed as four different blocks accessed by one staircase and connecting passageways. The scattered form gives the privacy to the apartments with no shared walls and a single staircase gives the feeling of one family- to reinforce the spirit of collective living in Auroville.
All apartments face on to green spaces on both the sides.
The long and narrow built form takes advantage from  the prevailing winds by ensuring cross ventilation in all the rooms.
The scattered blocks are connected with passage ways giving a ‘street-like’ feeling with seating areas at intervals for interaction among the residents.
