1. Unit : New Abilities Link

Volunteers Needed:

To assist in the Barrier-free Environment Project.

2. Work Description

Goal : To make Auroville more accessible to all people, of varying physical abilities.

Activities :

• Office work, giving advice and assistance to queries

• Computer research, to find suppliers and factories which creates/sells accessories and tools, in India or Western world.

• Internet research to find good practices and data on the subject of handicap accessibility to prepare for workshops or seminars.

• Field research on existing accesses to buildings and public places for physically challenged people

• Socio-economic survey on Auroville population and special needs related to this subject.

Skills Required : (not all is required from one person)

• Architectural and building knowledge to detect hindrances to accessibility

• Research skills using the computer and the internet

• Ability to get information nationally and internationally

• Interviewing skills

• Experience in social work

• Welcoming and friendly disposition

3. Time Frame : ASAP

Duration : 1-6 months
