AIAT Volunteer Work Proposal [01]

1. Unit : AIAT Auroville Institute for Applied Technology

- Located in Irumbai, AIAT provides educational training in technology for Aurovillian and village youth, up to the age of 25. There are presently 60-80 students each year.

Volunteers Needed: To assist with educational programming, organization, and other on-going activities of the unit.

2. Work Descriptions

Goal : Contribute to the development of the projected programmes and courses

Activities :

Teacher or guest lecturer in the following areas:

• Electronic

• Net-security

• Networking

• Administration

• Civil Engineering

• Eco-building

• Low energy architecture and construction,

• Small scale entrepreneurship

• Technical drawing

Several other missions are offered:

Educational marketing, organisation, and outreach for the Technology training centre

• Put in place an educational strategy: marketing survey of the needs of corporations for technical Human Resources (preferably retail industry); building relationships with teachers/trainers and organising a network

• Define a communication strategy (building the AIAT brand, design main features for a website, funding agencies, etc.)

• Update the AIAT web pages with new courses.

• Set up the Placement process with corporate and labour market.

• Organize fundraising and online donor portals.

Simplify NCVT and SCVT accreditation norms by working closely with the Government.

Skills Required:

• Experience in young adults education, preferably in technical training

• Marketing research and field survey skills or management experience

• Communication skills

• Written English skills

• Indian native, and good level of education (for activity N°6)

• Fundraising and networking skills (for activity N° 5)

3. Time Frame : ASAP

Duration : 3 to 6 months depending on mission
