Cyclone update

January 2nd, 2012

Hurricane ‘Thane’ that hit the Tamil Nadu coast on the night of December 29, 2011, swept through Auroville, leaving behind a trail of devastation.

Trees lovingly planted over 30 to 40 years across the barren plateau lay uprooted, buildings damaged, water and electric lines badly hit, as Thane swept through the green environment.

Matrimandir however, stands untouched, its golden sphere bringing people together from all corners of the world.

In 2012, we have to re-build the city stronger than before.
