Auroville: Flower Calendar 2017: Twelve Qualities

This wire-bound, wall hanging calendar displaying high quality photographs of flowers, with relevant quotations selected from the writings of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, is a fine addition to your home or workplace.
What is a symbol ?
A symbol, as I understand it, is the form on one plane that represents a truth of another. For instance, a flag is the symbol of a nation.... But generally all forms are symbols. This body of ours is a symbol of our real being and everything is a symbol of some higher reality.
– Sri Aurobindo

The Mother’s symbol
The central circle represents the Divine Consciousness. The four petals represent the four powers of the Mother. The twelve petals represent the twelve powers of the Mother manifested for Her work.
– The Mother
*
It is the symbolic design of the white Lotus of Supreme Consciousness, with the Mahashakti (the form of the Mother as universal creation) at the centre in her four aspects and twelve attributes.
– Sri Aurobindo
*
The central circle represents the Supreme Mother, the Mahashakti. The four central petals are the four aspects of the Mother – and the twelve petals, Her twelve attributes.
– The Mother
*
Essentially (in general principle) the twelve powers are the vibrations that are necessary for the complete manifestation. These are the twelve seen from the beginning above the Mother’s head. Thus there are really twelve rays from the sun, not seven, twelve planets etc.
– Sri Aurobindo, 15 April 1934
*
This year we present the twelve powers or qualities of the Mother’s symbol through the flowers named by her. “Twelve is a very important figure, that of the Mahashakti. It is the symbol of manifestation, double perfection, in essence and in the manifestation, in creation.”
These are the names of the twelve qualities given by the Mother: Sincerity, Humility, Gratitude, Perseverance, Aspiration, Receptivity, Progress, Courage, Goodness, Generosity, Equality, Peace. Later, for Auroville, she commented: “The first eight concern the attitude towards the Divine, and the last four towards humanity.” They are also the same qualities given to the small meditation chambers in the ‘petals’ below the Matrimandir.
