Rajasekar
I would
like to introduce myself as Rajasekar. I am a stone craftsman from Lakshmipuram,
Kuilyapalayam village near Auroville.
From childhood
I was much interested in craftwork and learned stone carving from Master
Craftsman Sri Venkatraman of Mahabalipuram.
But it was
Mr. Andre of New Creation, Auroville, who helped me start my unit and
encouraged me a lot. I named my unit Auro Ganesh. Andre also advised
me to take up a training course from the Government which I did and
got a Master's degree. Now I have trained 6 young people under me.
Today I
am proud to say that thanks to Auroville that I have been able to realise
my dream to be an independent artisan and teach other young people.
My dream is to continue the traditional stone craftsmanship and get
a national award one day.
