Kala Kendra, Centre for Arts in India
As a part of the Bharat Nivas, The pavilion of India, Kala Kendra is
the centre for arts. It has been recently renovated under a Government
of India grant from what housed the old restaurant building of the campus.
It is an overwhelmingly beautiful structure built in 1971 as a restaurant,
which was not used to its full potential till recently.
Renovated with a very conscious respect towards the original structure,
now it houses, work studios for artists of various disciplines such as
sculptures, ceramics, painting, print making, graphics, etc. It also
houses the Auroville Museum of Archaeology.
A small cafeteria is also envisaged as a part of the complex where artists
and visitors can meet under a relaxed atmosphere to explore deeper insights
in their work and life.
A small studio apartment for artists, a central library and quiet area,
a beautiful terrace for contemplative work sessions and access for physically
challenged artists and art enthusiasts are integral part of Kala Kendra.
It has all necessary infrastructures to make it an ideal space for artists.
An amphitheatre nearby and lots of open space and green areas make it
a special ambience for artists and art lovers
